Accessibility

Our Commitment

At Mast Interactive, accessibility isn’t a checklist — it’s a core principle of good design. We believe the web should work for everyone, regardless of ability, device, or circumstance. Since 2004, we’ve built digital experiences for education, public institutions, and enterprise organizations — audiences that include people of all abilities. That responsibility shapes how we design and build, for our clients and for ourselves.

Conformance Status

This website aims to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible to people with disabilities. We actively work to meet this standard and evaluate our site on an ongoing basis.

Accessibility Features of This Site

We’ve implemented the following on mastinteractive.com:

  • Keyboard navigation — All pages and interactive elements are navigable without a mouse.
  • Skip navigation link — A “skip to main content” link is available at the top of each page for screen reader and keyboard users.
  • Semantic HTML — Pages are built with proper heading hierarchy and landmark regions to support assistive technologies.
  • Alt text — Meaningful images include descriptive alternative text; decorative images are marked to be ignored by screen readers.
  • Color contrast — Text and interactive elements meet WCAG AA contrast ratio requirements.
  • Resizable text — Content remains readable and functional when text is scaled up to 200% in the browser.
  • Focus indicators — Visible focus styles are present on all interactive elements.
  • Responsive design — The site adapts across screen sizes and orientations without loss of content or functionality.

Accessibility in Our Client Work

Accessibility is integrated into our process — not added at the end. For client projects, this means:

  • Discovery — We identify accessibility requirements, compliance obligations (ADA, Section 508), and audience needs early, before anything is designed or built.
  • Design — We apply accessible color systems, typography scales, interaction patterns, and information architecture that works for screen readers, keyboard users, and low-vision users.
  • Development — We implement ARIA roles and attributes correctly, write semantic markup, and test against assistive technologies throughout the build.
  • QA & Testing — Accessibility is part of our quality assurance process, combining automated tools and manual review before launch.

If your organization has specific compliance requirements — Section 508, EN 301 549, or state-level mandates — we’re experienced in building to those standards.

How We Test

We use a combination of methods to evaluate accessibility:

  • Automated tools — axe DevTools, Lighthouse, and WAVE for baseline scanning
  • Manual keyboard testing — Navigating all interactions without a pointing device
  • Screen reader testing — Using NVDA (Windows) and VoiceOver (macOS/iOS)
  • Color contrast analysis — Verified against WCAG 2.1 AA thresholds

Known Limitations

We’re committed to transparency. Some third-party tools and embedded content on this site — such as contact forms or map embeds — may not fully meet WCAG 2.1 AA standards, as we do not control their underlying code. We work to select vendors with strong accessibility practices and will flag known issues as we identify them.
